Skin Pigmentation treatment and sun damage is common in a country like ours with intense UV rays and where the majority of people have lighter skin. Excessive exposure to UV sun rays damages our skin in several ways and contributes heavily to premature ageing.
Causes of Skin Pigmentation:
- Excessive UV exposure destroys collagen molecules under the skin leading to a loss of volume, uneven tone, rough texture and fine lines and wrinkles.
- Excessive UV exposure creates uneven blotchy pigmented skin with areas of freckles and mottling.
- Excessive UV exposure damages the fine superficial blood vessels in the face leading to broken capillaries and exacerbating rosacea.
- Excessive UV exposure can lead to the formation of cancerous lesions that are not only unsightly but can also lead to serious health issues.
Once this damage is done many people think that there is nothing that they can do but these days with the invention of skin serums and Laser treatments most, if not all of the damage can be reversed over time.Treatment of sun damaged skin starts with a fantastic skin serum regime that is specifically designed to protect and nourish damaged skin and start the process of cellular turnover and renewal that needs to take place if rejuvenation is to occur. After this we specifically target pigmentation and broken vessels in the skin with Laser and IPL technology.
This enables us just to focus on the problem spots whilst leaving all the normal health skin alone. For mild to moderate sun damaged skin, skin pigmentation and sun damage can be treated by using skin serums but if someone has severe damage then more intensive treatments are needed. The gold standard treatment for renewal of severely sun damaged skin is to use a dove tailed treatment involving a chemical peel, dermaroller session and fraxel laser treatment all in the one session. This combined treatment approach gives phenomenal results but also comes with a significant period of downtime where the skin needs to heal (normally from 5-7 days). If this amount of time off is not possible then we can individually adjust treatment to reduce downtime required.
