Loose or saggy skin and jowls on the face are due to 3 main factors:

• A loss of skin elasticity and skin structure.
• A loss of volume under the skin or
•  A combination of both

Treatment of loose, sagging skin or jowls is basically a form of skin tightening treatment. Treating these areas is possible but it first requires some background information

Loose skin leads to a loss of the defined features on the face as the skin is not tight enough to display our natural underlying bone and tissue structure. This leads to a wrinkled mask like effect that is very ageing and aesthetically unappealing. Having loose skin on the face also leads to a loss of a sharp defined jaw line as we now have the dreaded “jowls” hanging in strips on what was once a sharp angular feature.

Until recently if someone had loose skin on the face there was very little they could do except for seeing a plastic surgeon for a facelift. With the discovery of deep skin renewal procedures however we can keep most people out of the surgeons hands by offering them a non surgical skin tightening treatments that are safer, less expensive and arguably gives much better, more natural results.

There are various skin tightening treatments  including Fraxel lasers, Dermarollers and deep chemical peels and often in combination with each other. This creates a controlled inflammation in the skin that leads to collagen contraction and natural skin tightening at a molecular level. Apart from tightening our skin, a deep skin renewal procedure will maximise all other aspects of our skin quality including tone, texture, complexion, pigmentation, pores, capillaries, fine lines and wrinkles and luminosity. Unlike a facelift that can give that pulled, stretched effect skin tightening achieved from a deep renewal procedure looks very natural because it arises from the body’s own healing processes.

If the loose skin is also due to a loss of volume under the skin (which it often is) then after we have tightened the skin we replace this lost volume with dermal fillers. Every area has a particular product which is best suited for it and choosing this product comes down to individual assessment of the face.
