Acne tends to be unsightly and can be very distressing for the person suffering from it. It can range from having a few blackheads or whiteheads all the way up to having cystic acne which can often leave deep permanent scarring. Acne is easy to treat but unfortunately very few beauty therapists, nurses or even doctors have the knowledge to treat this common skin condition. The other problem is that most acne treatments sold in pharmacies or on the television are ineffective for the most part and is many cases can actually make the problem worse.
Our medical director Dr Tom Goyer is a specialist in acne treatment, whether it be teenage acne or middle age acne which is often associated with broken capillaries and hormonal fluctuation. Correct treatment of acne involves a series of steps that are taken in turn until the client is happy with his or her own skin and at that point a maintenance program is put in place to make sure that optimum skin quality is preserved. Treatment begins with a medial grade skin regime which is specifically designed for the individual skin type. If necessary further treatments like chemical peels and laser therapy can be used to kill bacteria, unclog blocked pores and reduce sebum production. In some cases a low dose antibiotic can also be successful for more resistant acne but only for short courses.
In severe cases of cystic acne scarring can be left on the face. This can be devastating for the person suffering from this complication but acne scar treatment for this condition has improved markedly given recent breakthroughs in modern medicine. These days we can reduce even the deepest scar tissue by up to 90% by using treatment modalities such as dermal rollers and Fraxel lasers. These acne scar treatments break up the scar tissue initiating a wound healing response which lays down normal tissue instead. Repeat treatments are often necessary for best results depending upon the type and severity of the scarring.
